The Habit of Becoming
The Habit of Becoming
You decided to become someone. Someone who runs, or writes every morning, or does the difficult thing first. You decided it properly. And here you are, months later, still the previous version. The advice you have heard is to adopt the identity first and let the behaviour follow. For most people it does not, and the reason is worth knowing. A label you have claimed but not earned is a claim your own mind can see is unsupported, and that gap gets closed the cheap way: by quietly dropping the claim. The order that works is the reverse. Identity follows evidence. You accumulate instances until the label is simply accurate, and nobody has to decide anything. So the work is not believing harder. It is generating evidence faster than you currently do. This book is entirely about behaviour. You will pick one identity instead of five, find the smallest version you would still honestly log, build an evidence account that counts instances rather than streaks, and write a restart rule before you need it. Because you will miss, and missing is nearly free. Failing to restart is what ends things. Twelve chapters, a worked example in every one, and a thirty-day plan. No mindset work. Every technique here is something you do.
